INVESTING IN EDUCATION

A strong education system is the foundation of a thriving community. Michael McGill has been actively engaged in South Mississippi’s education landscape, meeting directly with school board members, lobbying for education legislation at the state Capitol, and supporting teachers in their efforts to deliver quality instruction to every student.

EMPOWERING TEACHERS AND SCHOOLS

McGill has consistently stood with educators, advocating for increased teacher salaries, better classroom resources, and professional development opportunities that help retain top talent in South Mississippi schools. He believes that when teachers are supported, students succeed.

INFORMED FAMILIES, STRONGER SCHOOLS

McGill has helped host forums across the Gulf Coast to ensure that every parent has access to accurate, unbiased information about their educational options. He believes that informed families make better decisions for their children, and that every parent deserves a seat at the table regardless of where they stand on the issue.

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

McGill recognizes that education must align with workforce demands. He supports partnerships between local schools, trade programs, and employers to ensure students graduate with the skills needed to build careers right here in South Mississippi.

SUPPORTING OUR SEAFOOD INDUSTRY

The seafood industry is the backbone of South Mississippi’s economy and cultural identity. Michael McGill has been on the front lines fighting to protect local fishermen, defending their livelihoods against policies and legal challenges that threaten their way of life.

FIGHTING FOR OUR FISHERMEN

When a lawsuit threatened to strip local fishermen of their right to harvest oysters from Mississippi waters, McGill stood with the fishing community in opposing it. The law was ultimately found unconstitutional, a victory for every fisherman and family who depends on Mississippi’s waters for their livelihood.

STANDING UP FOR THE LOCAL ANGLER

McGill is currently fighting for recreational fishermen in the ongoing red snapper debate. While federal regulators have moved to protect commercial snapper fishing, local anglers have been left out of the conversation. McGill believes that families and weekend fishermen who have fished these waters for generations deserve the same access and protections as commercial operations.

SAFEGUARDING OUR WATERS AND HERITAGE

McGill advocates for policies that protect Mississippi’s marine resources while ensuring that local fishermen, not outside interests, remain at the center of decisions about our coastal waters. He believes in balancing conservation with the economic and cultural traditions that define life on the Gulf Coast.

PROTECTING OUR NATURAL RESOURCES

South Mississippi’s coastline, waterways, and wildlife are not just environmental assets; they are economic engines and a way of life. Michael McGill has been an active supporter of conservation efforts across the Gulf Coast, working to protect the natural resources that define our region.

SUPPORTING THE BLUE ECONOMY

McGill is a strong supporter of the Gulf Blue initiative and the blue economy, recognizing that healthy waters mean thriving fisheries, stronger tourism, and better quality of life for every Gulf Coast resident. He believes that protecting our marine environment and growing our economy go hand in hand.

PROTECTING OUR WILDLIFE AND WATERS

McGill has supported sea turtle conservation efforts along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including the release programs that give these animals a fighting chance. He has also been a vocal opponent of the Bonnet Carré Spillway openings, which push freshwater into the Gulf and devastate oyster reefs, fish populations, and dolphin habitats that our communities and fishermen depend on.

KEEPING OUR COAST CLEAN

McGill has worked to get cities engaged in beach and coastal cleanup priorities and has participated in Gulf cleanups targeting trash on Mississippi’s barrier islands. He believes that clean beaches and healthy waterways are not optional, they are essential to who we are as a Gulf Coast community.

SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL GUARD

In times of crisis and beyond, the Mississippi National Guard serves as the backbone of our communities, stepping in to protect, support, and rebuild. As a retired U.S. Army veteran with 20 years of service, Michael McGill understands firsthand the sacrifices Guard members make. He meets with National Guard staff multiple times a year and maintains regular communication with the Military Affairs Committee to stay engaged on the issues that matter most to Mississippi’s service members.

RESOURCES AND READINESS

McGill is a strong advocate for increased funding and modernization of the National Guard. From securing advanced equipment to improving training facilities, he recognizes that readiness is not optional. When a hurricane hits the Gulf Coast or a national emergency demands a response, Mississippi’s Guard members must be prepared. McGill will fight to ensure they are.

A PROVEN RECORD OF RESULTS

For three years, McGill lobbied and fought to secure TriCare health coverage for Mississippi National Guard members. That effort paid off this year when the legislation passed, making Mississippi one of only a few states in the nation to provide this benefit to its Guard members. It is the kind of result that comes from sustained advocacy, strong relationships, and refusing to give up.

SUPPORT FOR SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES

Guard members juggle civilian careers, family responsibilities, and military service simultaneously. McGill supports policies that expand healthcare access, strengthen mental health services, and provide meaningful support for Guard members transitioning back to civilian life after deployment. He also champions educational opportunities and job placement programs for Guard members and their families, because those who serve should never have to fight for what they have earned.

BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES

The National Guard’s role extends far beyond emergencies. It is about building stronger communities through service, unity, and leadership. McGill believes in fostering partnerships between the Guard and local governments to address regional challenges, from hurricane preparedness to community development. His vision is a Mississippi where the National Guard remains a pillar of strength and the men and women who serve it are honored accordingly.
